Annabel Snyder

Hello there, my name is Annabel.   

Art has always been a journey of exploration, wonder, and self-discovery for me.

Born in West Africa in the 1960s, I spent my childhood surrounded by vibrant landscapes and diverse cultures that left a lasting impression on my imagination. From an early age, I was constantly drawing and painting, attempting to interpret and illustrate the world around me with pencil and brush.

My artistic vision has been shaped by a deep appreciation for the Op Art movement, the intricate patterns found in nature, and the elegance of the Art Deco movement — particularly the work of William Morris. The rhythm, repetition, and harmony present in these influences continue to inform my creative language.

Over the years, I have explored glass, glass fusing, and mosaic work, fascinated by the interplay of light and color within these mediums. Yet my lifelong passion for drawing continually brings me back to the fundamentals — pencil, watercolor, and pen & ink. These materials allow me to capture the beauty and complexity of the natural world in a way that feels both immediate and deeply personal.

Having lived in many different parts of the world, I consider myself fortunate that each environment has contributed to the evolution of my work. Exposure to varied cultures and landscapes has added depth and richness to my artistic journey.

Now living in Sarasota, FL and with over 30 years of experience, I have exhibited in both the United States and the United Kingdom, and my work is held in private collections internationally. My time at the University of Creative Arts in Surrey, England, was instrumental in developing my foundational skills in design and refining my style that blends traditional influence with contemporary interpretation.

Today, my work reflects a continuing exploration of form, pattern, and color — a celebration of the natural world and the enduring possibilities of artistic expression. I invite viewers to see the world through my eyes and discover their own connections within my creations.
